EntreCard
Hmph. Unfortunately, this one is going. I started using it a while ago, and it seemed like it could be worth the trouble at first. People were coming in, adverts were being applied for and I got a lot of drops. However, the thing is, I hoped it would make blogging more social. I mean, I comment on yours, spark your interest to visit mine, then you would comment on my blog or maybe even do a ping back on your post as I inspired you, but no… None of that has happened. What I do get is a lot of drops, from people advertising their own blogs and collecting credits for the drops. This is unfortunately one more of those cudos for nothing things that really should be taken out of the equation already.
Unfortunately fighting for visibility online is hard work – even if you deserved the visibility. Oh well, I keep trying anyway, as that’s what I do…

Good point about the bounce rate, I haven’t even considered that. Thanks for the tip about the forums, I have to admit I never got that far with EntreCard!
I removed the widget from my blog as well. In addition to what you mentioned, the action alone creates a bounce rate that is out of this world. The community within the Entrecard forums can be interesting the practice of dropping alone just isn’t worth it.
I was wondering where you got off to! And, I think it won’t be long before I also retire that Entrecard widget. I spend more time returning drops than I do writing content. I managed to drum up a few really good conversations (on controversial, very specific issues), but nothing that is lasting. I’d rather a few good “barflies” than a rush of visits that spend less than .01 seconds on my blog. Hollow.
Glad to see you’re still kickin’, Sebastyne.

That’s so true, Theresa, that a lot of these things take time from the main thing – writing! I do understand the service administrators point of view, you want people to spend time on your site, clicking your adverts, but it’s still the functionality of the product that counts. Too much fluff around the service isn’t good.
Not to say I wouldn’t do the same… I’m just building a site for bloggers on the root of this domain… Just kind of woke up with the idea and had to get it done, fortunately I had all the pieces for it ready to go.
I’m just hoping it would be fun and social rather than empty ratings, but let’s see how it goes.
Thanks for noticing!!
